This is Owen last July, during the first few weeks of our journey:
This is Owen now:
Today is Owen's 12th birthday. It has been a privilege and a joy, and sometimes a scream, seeing this boy turn into a young man in the last year. We love you Owen. Happy Birthday.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my wonderful first grandchild. I am sooo very proud of you! You are a great kid and I really admire the way you have met people and made friends all over the world. You will always hold a very special place in my heart. All my love, Nana June
Happy Birthday to You! You live in a zoo (really!)! You look like a monkey (like it's a bad thing?) - And you smell like one too! Happy Birthday, Owen!
I hope you're not finding adequate sanitation too difficult. I remember at the end of a 6-week sojourn in China (1986), the most exciting thing on the trip was entering our accommodations in Shanhai and seeing that "American Standard" stamped on the toilet!
We're awaiting August 10th with baited breath! Aloha, Nicole, Jim, Cody & Matthew (and Grandma Peggy!)

Wow. Amazing. Happy Birthday, Owen! He's all man-like now. Time to purchase fancy man-like things, like razors, and deodorant, and whiskey.
