We really love Cusco. Here's are some of the reasons:
- The incredible and inspiring community of expats and volunteers here.
- The 3 newborn guinea pigs at SAE - which Eleanor got to name: Chicha Morada, Peanut Butter, and Iniesta.
- The proximity to so many amazing places: Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, the Peruvian Amazon.
- The city lights at night, climbing up the mountains in every direction.
- Tamales and coffee for breakfast
- The sky - every moment of every day and night.
- The markets - full of smells and foods and piles of things that you have no idea what they are - and then you realize that they're hundreds of frog legs.
- Buying lunch for 3 bucks for the four of us. Of course we were afraid for our intestines when we left - and we're never going back there again!
- The gazilion layers of skirts that all the traditional ladies wear.
- The cobblestone streets that cars can't get through.
- The best avocados and tomatoes (almost) we've ever tasted.
- The taxis that are decorated with fringe in the windshields, and hanging with pastel madonnas.
- Cusqueña Malta beer. We watch them make it from our bedroom window. It's Gooooood.
- The caipirinhas at the place down the street, after the kids are in bed.
- Lomo Saltado - the most successful clash of Chinese and Peruvian cultures ever!
